The world of skincare has expanded so much in the past few years. It can be overwhelming when you dive into the content and start learning about all the products available. These 5 skincare tips are easy to implement and can help you to achieve beautiful, glowing skin while saving money.

These skincare tips can be used in summer or winter to keep your skin hydrated and fresh.

Skincare Tip # 1: Try Out Hand Cream as a Moisturizer

If it’s a pricy brand you want to try or that you’ve tried and loved for your moisturizer but the price point is not aligned with your financial goals, give this tip a try.

See if the brand offers a hand cream. Then compare the ingredients list of the hand cream to that of the moisturizer. Sometimes they are very similar.

I’ve done this with the Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Hand Cream and really liked the results. It has similar ingredients to their Squalane + Omega Repair Cream.

I also like that by saving on a moisturizer I can spend a little more on actives like lactic acid or retinol.

Skincare Tip # 2: Cut Open Product Tubes

Cutting open your product tubes is a great way to make the most of your skincare products.

Even when it seems like you’ve used all of the product, there’s often a good amount left on the sides and bottom of the tube.

This trick lets you access the full amount of your product so you get more bang for your buck. I’ve gotten up to a week’s worth of extra product with this skincare tip.

I’ve also found using a little makeup spatula like this one helpful to get all the product out.

Skincare Tip # 3: Use a Humidifier

Hydrated skin is happy skin! Especially in winter, this skin care tip can make a huge difference.

I like using a humidifier at night to hydrate my dry skin. It adds moisture to the air which can help prevent dryness and irritation.

And when you’re sleeping there, why not use that time to keep your skin glowing?

My hands get really dry in winter or on days when I need to wash them a bunch. On those days I’ve used a little desktop humidifier in addition to my hand cream.

It’s adorable and you can add essential oils for a little aromatherapy moment.

My mom has a car humidifier she loves and has gifted to many friends.

Skincare Tip # 4: Keep Your Routine Simple

If you’ve watched those celebrity skincare routine videos by Vogue you’ve seen how many steps can be added to your routine. It can get super overwhelming fast.

The best routine, especially when starting out, is one that you’ll be able to keep. You want it to be sustainable for yourself.

Starting with a simple and easy base routine gives you time to establish the habit of doing your skincare. Once it becomes your norm you can add more steps as you desire.

You can totally have an effective routine without a bunch of steps.

Focus on a few great products for your skin type or to address specific concerns

The most basic steps are cleanser–> moisturizer–> sunscreen.

The sunscreen isn’t necessary for your night routine.

Once you have that down you can add a step or two.

1. cleanser-> 2. toner or essence-> 3. actives-> 4. moisturizer-> 5. sunscreen.

Steps 2 & 3 are customizable. You can choose just to add a hydrating essence like snail mucin, or you can choose several actives.

You might find a serum with several actives to be easier to use. I like Naturium’s Azelaic Acid which also has Vitamin C and Niacinamide. Sometimes it’s the only active I use when I want to keep my routine quick.

When you start adding more steps and actives do so slowly. One new product at a time and give it a week or so to see how your skin reacts.

This way you don’t overwhelm your skin with possible irritants. And if irritation occurs you know which product is the cause.

Skincare Tip # 5: Try Slugging

This trend has gained popularity with the increase of Korean skincare products and techniques.

To slug all you need to do is apply a layer of an occlusive product like petroleum jelly or Aquaphor at the end of your skincare routine.

This seals in moisture and creates a barrier to lock in your previously applied skincare products.

I do this as part of my evening routine once or twice a week and every time I do my skin is so soft in the morning.

I’ve also done this in the winter on bitterly cold days when I help feed the animals at my mom’s farm. Adding that layer of Vaseline or Aquaphor helps to prevent flakey dry skin, which no one wants.
