Since we can’t actually go out with the quarantine in place having date night in is essential. That’s why I compiled this list of at home date night ideas.

You can still take time for fun in your relationship and it’s a great way to break up the monotony of the week.

Whether you have kids or not there are many ways you can get creative to still enjoy some romance with your honey.

Below you’ll find ideas that you can use to create a special, unique experience with your honey.

1. Movie Night

Many of us have done this before, it’s a classic, but now is a great time to spice things up. Each of you pick a movie that the other hasn’t seen, make some popcorn and cuddle up on the couch.

Mix things up by doing a popcorn taste test with different flavors. You can get different types of kernels (purple popcorn is nice and light) and flavor shakers.

If you really want to experiment check out your spice cabinet and try to find the best ‘weird’ combo with what you have. Parmesan and garlic pepper is tasty. Add some heat with a sprinkle of cayenne.

2. Re-create Your First Date

Do the best you can here since you’re doing this re-creation at home. Did you go to a restaurant? Try cooking something similar. Did you go to a movie? Re watch it. Use what you have at home.

If you have kids, let them help and be involved. They’ll get a kick out of learning how mommy and daddy met with this home date night idea.

3. Explore Your Local Zoo

A trip to the zoo? Wha? Walk around the house or neighborhood looking for animals and flowers.

Or check out the social media & website for your favorite zoo. Many are doing videos like the Cincinnati zoo’s home safari videos.

4. Fancy Dinner

Get dressed up and make a really nice dinner. Use your wedding china or just some nice plates. Make it special just because. What meals do you really enjoy but don’t make often?

If you aren’t much of a cook you can order fancy take out or try a meal kit service like Hello Fresh. Or you can try one of my recipes here.

5. Explore a Museum

Many museums have videos or virtual experiences online, perfect for exploring from your living room together.

Enjoy a glass of wine and talk about what stands out to you in each piece of art. You could talk about what you notice and any memories it brings up.

Here are some great virtual tours currently offered:

6. Learn to Dance

For this at home date night idea you’ll definitely want to clear some space to make sure you have plenty of room. All you have to do is find a step by step dance lesson online. You can pick any dance you like, but there’s something so romantic about dancing closely in your honey’s arms.

Here is a playlist of short videos teaching the Waltz or spice it up with learning to salsa here.

Pick your favorite genre or go with the one your partner is most likely to agree to- hip hop, swing, interpretive.

If you’re already pros then see if you can find and learn the choreography from a favorite music video or show-stopping musical number.

7. Make a Custom Cocktail

What flavors do you each like? See what beverages you have on hand and create your own combination. Make up a fun name for your new drink.

If this seems overwhelming, scope out some drink recipes like these on Pinterest to try. This home date night idea might require a little planning in advance if your drink selection is slim.

8. Game Night

Grab your favorite games or learn to play a new game together. You could play board games or video games or any other game.

If you’re extra creative you could even make up your own game.

9. Have an Indoor Beach Party

Put a beach scene on your TV or computer so that you can see and hear the ocean (YouTube is a great place to find one like this). Open your window shades or turn on some lights to be sunlight.

Lay on your beach towels. If you don’t have carpet, place a yoga mat or folded blanket under your towel for some cushion. Slip into your swimsuits and relax!

Read a book or just close your eyes and let the sound of waves wash over you.

10. Craft Night

Grab whatever art supplies you have around the house and start creating.

Don’t let this date idea scare you if you don’t think you’re creative.  It doesn’t matter if you aren’t artistic, the act of creating together is what we’re going for here.

  • Try taking turns drawing each other.
  • Paint a canvas together.
  • Make friendship bracelets.
  • Put together a relationship vision board.
  • Create Christmas ornaments.
  • Make cards to send to relatives.
  • Learn to knit or crochet.

Whatever you end up doing, just have fun with it.

11. Read Together

This home date night idea is great if you need a low-key evening. Read a book out loud together. Take turns and do your best to use different voices for each character. This one may work best if you have an author or genre that you both like.

Hubby and I are both big fans of Brandon Sanderson. Check out his books if you like fantasy or sci-fi (Mistborn is a good one to start with).

You could also find an audiobook to listen to together. Jim Dale did an amazing job narrating the Harry Potter Series.

12. Do a Photoshoot of Each Other

Pick each other’s outfits, poses, locations around the house and take photos of each other with your phone camera.

For an extra challenge pick a theme: 80s, fantasy, sci-fi, cheesy yearbook, professional headshots, high fashion, recreated childhood photos, super artistic, etc.

13. Re-create Scenes From Your Favorite Painting, Movie or Play

You may have seen those photos of people recreating famous works of art with what they have around the house. Give this a try!

You can find some examples here.

Not into art? Recreate your favorite movie scene or a scene from a play or musical.

14. Make a Music Video

Make a music video together of your wedding song, your favorite song or a fav from childhood. This can be goofy or serious, just have fun with it!

15. Do a Lip-sync Battle

Pick 2-3 songs that you’re each going to lip-sync and one that you’ll do together at the end. You can take some time to prepare or you can just wing it.

Record your performances if you want to save them for later or share with your family.

If you decide to share your lip-sync performances, consider getting some friends in on a couples lip-sync battle. Each couple picks a couple songs to record and then share with each other at the same time.

Have a Great Home Date Night!

Have fun with these and let your creativity flow. Don’t be afraid to get outside your comfort zone, after all that’s where growth happens.

No matter what you decide to do, your home date night should be fun and let you connect with your partner.

Let me know in the comments which Date Night Idea you’re most excited to try.

Enjoy!
